How These Reviews Work
Every VPN on this page went through the same 30-day, hands-on testing process on a real Indian connection, an Excitel fibre line in Kanpur with a 94.1 Mbps baseline. We measure download speed and ping on Indian and US servers, test Netflix, Hotstar and BBC iPlayer with real accounts, run DNS, WebRTC and IPv6 leak tests, and read every independent audit report before we score anything.
The ratings below are editorial scores based on that testing, not marketing claims. When we quote a number we did not measure ourselves, we label it as a cited figure. Commissions never change a score; see our Editorial Policy for how we handle conflicts.

What the Scores Mean
4.5 and above, excellent across speed, privacy and streaming; a safe default for most people. 4.0โ4.4, strong overall, with one trade-off worth knowing about, such as jurisdiction, long-distance speed or price. Below 4.0, works, but only makes sense for specific use cases.
A sample from our July 2026 speed tests: NordVPN retained 83.5% of our baseline on Indian servers (78.5 Mbps), and ProtonVPN's US servers managed 75.5 Mbps despite a 455 ms round trip.
